Flower Crowns for Garden Day #1

Stars Lisa Snowdon, Sophie Dahl and Liz Earle will rock flower crowns for the UK's first ever Virtual Garden Gathering on Garden Day, Sunday 10th May 2020

This Sunday, celebrate a star-studded Garden Day live with television and radio presenter Lisa Snowdon, best-selling author Sophie Dahl, wellness warrior Liz Earle and leading garden designers and florists for the UK’s first ever Virtual Garden Gathering. Rock a homemade flower crown with the stars and tune in from 11am to 3.30pm for a
garden-inspired programme of elevenses, story time, flower crown-making, drinks and garden gastronomy streamed live on Garden Day UK’s Facebook channel.

Garden Day is a community benefit movement that celebrates the benefits of gardens for health and mental wellbeing by encouraging garden get-togethers. This year under lockdown, Garden Day is taking the party online and calling on plant-lovers everywhere to come together for the biggest ever virtual garden celebration. It’s a day to down tools, pop on a homemade flower crown, sit back with a cup of tea or a glass in hand and connect with friends and family by video calls and social media.

Start the day with elevenses with Arthur Coles at The Newt in Somerset, followed by story time in the garden with Sophie Dahl. Get creative with flower crown-making sessions with wellness warrior Liz Earle and florists Julie Collins of the British Academy of Floral Art, Simon Lycett and Jonathan Moseley, and pick up gardening tips and tricks from garden designer Ann-Marie Powell and Mr Plant Geek, Michael Perry. Drop in for a touch of garden gastronomy with No Dig kitchen gardener, Stephanie Hafferty, before raising a toast with Garden Day’s flower crown ambassadors: Chris Beardshaw, Gynelle Leon, Kitten Grayson, Wolves Lane Flower Company and Ben Abercrombie at the end of the programme.

Garden designer and thirteen times RHS Gold medallist, Chris Beardshaw, pictured top left, understands first-hand how beneficial gardens are: “Garden Day is the perfect opportunity for us all to get into our gardens, share our experiences virtually, and participate in a movement that sows the seeds of health, happiness and healing. There has never been a more poignant moment for us to discover the benefits of surrounding ourselves with our favourite plants
