Florverde Scheme Expands into Ecuador
Florverde Sustainable Flowers (FSF) continues to strengthen its position as a leading global sustainability certification in the floriculture sector. In a significant milestone for international alignment, Ecuador’s Regulatory and Phytosanitary Control Agency (Agrocalidad) has officially recognized Florverde as equivalent to its national Good Agricultural Practices (BPA) certification.
This alliance enables Ecuadorian flower and ornamental producers to meet both national and international sustainability requirements through a single certification scheme. It eliminates the need for redundant audits and opens the door for streamlined access to highly demanding markets such as the European Union.
The recognition is the result of a rigorous technical process, including in-depth comparison of certification standards and on-site verifications carried out jointly by FSF and Agrocalidad. The outcome confirms that FSF’s environmental and social criteria meets those of Ecuador’s BPA program.
Currently, over 1,800 hectares in Ecuador are certified by Florverde, with an additional 90 hectares undergoing certification. In total, this initiative could benefit producers across more than 6,400 hectares of floricultural land in the world.
“Flowers certified by FSF represent much more than beauty,” said Daniela España, Florverde’s Director. “They are grown under strict protocols for water conservation, biodiversity protection, deforestation prevention, climate action, and respect for workers' rights and community development.”
This milestone also supports floriculture companies in Ecuador approaching their BPA renewal. By aligning with FSF, they can meet national standards while boosting their international competitiveness under one trusted seal.
